Rihanna is truly one of the biggest superstars we know today. The exotic singer reminds us of the old myth of King Midas and his golden touch – everything she does is an immediate success, from her music career to her designer collaborations with Puma. She is an unstoppable force and the latest proof of that is her debut makeup line.
The much anticipated Fenty Beauty Collection took two years to develop, but the singer emphasizes that it was absolutely worth it. She defines diversity and inclusivity as the main ideas behind the brand’s creation.
A week prior to the launch of Fenty Beauty, Rihanna herself shared a preview video on Instagram. The message she wanted to convey was clear – there is a suitable shade of makeup for everyone, regardless of skintone or ethnicity. The complexion-focused collection features 91 products, among which 40 different foundation colours.
The product line consists of foundations, primers, highlighters, colncealer and countour sticks, blotting powder and paper, and brushes and tools. Youtube beauty gurus have already started reviewing Fenty Beauty, so we can rely on their expertise when deciding whether or not to indulge ourselves with new makeup.
The premiere was on September 8 and it was celebrated with a fabulous party in Brooklyn. The products are available on the official website – fentybeauty.com, and can also be found in Sephora and Harvey Nichols. However, there already are quite a few empty racks in the stores. Given it is a very big, yet underexplored market, it is hardly surprising that 7 out of the 13 darkest foundation shades were sold out in a matter of days.
We only have to wait and see if other brands follow in Rihanna’s steps and make the conscious effort to appeal to people of colour. In any case, there is a makeup revolution in the making!
